Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has revealed that certain individuals within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), disguised as members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level, are scheming to infiltrate and dismantle his political base to thwart his 2027 reelection ambitions.
Governor Eno referred to many of his appointees who switched allegiance with him to the APC on June 6, 2025, as “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” cautioning that their acts of disloyalty would be decisively addressed when the time is right.
He challenged those undermining his political framework, rhetorically asking, “If you oppose the structure, what exactly do you intend to do with mine?” He recalled that previous governors had faced similar internal sabotage but made it clear he would not tolerate such betrayal from those he considered allies.
Despite earlier acknowledging, “I don’t possess the kind of influence like Wike (the FCT Minister) to defend my structure,” the visibly concerned apc-sends-warning-shot-to-gov-adeleke-days-after-tinubu-talks/” title=”Tension in Osun as … sends warning shot to Gov Adeleke days after Tinubu talks”>governor declared his intention to personally verify the loyalty of his appointees by cross-checking their genuine defection through their APC membership cards across various wards.
The governor shared these insights during a special inter-denominational thanksgiving service held over the weekend to commemorate the 38th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State’s creation at the International Christian Worship Centre (ICWC) on Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo, the state capital.
He urged his political adversaries to reconsider their stance, warning firmly that he would not tolerate any resistance to his bid for a second term.
“Many of you attend APC meetings during the day and sneak off to PDP gatherings at night,” he revealed, adding that he has established extensive surveillance across the state to identify those engaging in double-dealing as the 2027 elections approach.
Promising to personally disrupt these clandestine nocturnal meetings to expose those playing both sides, Eno affirmed his commitment to safeguarding his political mission aimed at fostering a united Akwa Ibom. He expressed bewilderment at why his opponents persist in promoting division.
He called on the people to embrace forgiveness and reject any form of discord that could jeopardize the peace and unity of the state.
“Let us unite in love, forgive past grievances, and work collectively. Our focus should be on the welfare of Akwa Ibom. Witnessing people come together beyond party lines fills me with hope. Every patriotic citizen should prioritize the state’s progress. This is the essence of unity,” he emphasized.
“We must transcend ethnic divisions. This is a clarion call to rise above tribalism, narrow-mindedness, and entrenched animosities. Akwa Ibom is our only home. I inherited a united state, and I intend to hand over the same unity. Nothing should divide us,” Governor Eno stressed.
He highlighted the importance of honoring the contributions of past leaders, pledging to maintain collaboration with them, respect their service, and preserve their legacies.
The governor also praised the maturity, unity, and understanding demonstrated by the leadership of various political parties within the state and expressed gratitude to former leaders and stakeholders who attended the event.
Concluding, Governor Eno thanked the citizens for their resilience, support, and unwavering confidence in the state’s potential for greater achievements. He reminded everyone of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging all eligible residents to register in preparation for upcoming elections.
