In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, key figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have pledged their unwavering support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. They also expressed their determination to reclaim political control from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the North Western region.
The declaration came during a private meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, attended by prominent APC leaders including former national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Senate Deputy President Senator Barau Jibrin, and House of Representatives member Hon. Abubakar Bichi, who addressed the press afterward.
Other notable participants included the Minister of State for Housing Abdullahi Atta, Senator Kawu Sumaila, ex-Governor Kabiru Gaya, Sulaiman Bichi, Hon. Mohammed Garba, alongside several current and former legislators and commissioners from both national and state levels.
Dr. Ganduje explained that the gathering aimed to review the party’s achievements in Kano State and to reaffirm their steadfast backing of President Tinubu’s leadership.
Despite the APC’s loss in the 2023 elections, the former Kano governor emphasized that the party remains robust and united within the state. He confidently predicted that the APC’s growing influence would enable it to unseat the NNPP government in the upcoming 2027 polls.
“We commend President Tinubu’s policy initiatives and the positive impact of his administration on the nation and Kano State in particular. We also value the appointments he has made that benefit our people,” Ganduje stated.
“Although we narrowly missed victory in the last election, our party has stayed cohesive and strong. Thanks to the president’s effective policies and our strategic political efforts, we have attracted many influential politicians from rival parties into our fold.
“We are committed to intensifying our efforts to secure success in the next gubernatorial election. Additionally, we are focused on encouraging voter registration during the ongoing exercise. Our members are actively registering, and we are confident that this will translate into a strong turnout at the polls,” he added.
Senator Barau Jibrin echoed these sentiments, highlighting the tangible progress under President Tinubu’s administration in Kano, the broader North, and across Nigeria. He affirmed the APC’s resolve to mobilize support for the president’s re-election campaign.
“We have witnessed numerous completed and ongoing projects in our state and the northern region. The president has also made significant appointments benefiting our people at various levels,” Jibrin remarked.
“Our party’s momentum continues to build, fueled by the president’s efforts to improve the welfare of our citizens. We are dedicated to communicating these achievements to our constituents and rallying them behind the president’s vision. Our support for him is unwavering because he genuinely cares for us,” he concluded.
Hon. Abubakar Bichi, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, dismissed claims that President Tinubu lacks commitment to the North as baseless political rhetoric. He underscored the administration’s substantial contributions to Kano State, the northern region, and the country at large.
