Reports indicate that the victims-two-year-old Fatima, affectionately called Mama; three-year-old Anwar; and a neighbor’s son-were allegedly abducted on Tuesday by an unknown woman who enticed them with promises of charity.
Their father, Babagana Zanna Jaridama, known for his social media activism and support for Governor Babagana Zulum, had been desperately searching for his missing children and even offered to turn himself in to secure their safe return.
Tragically, the situation took a grim turn when, on Thursday night, Jaridama found the lifeless bodies of the children inside his old car parked within his compound.
The police promptly transported the bodies to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Confirming the incident, Borno State Police Commissioner, CP Nazir Abdulmajid, assured that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the details surrounding this tragic event.
In an official statement released on Friday by ASP Kenneth Daso, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, the deaths were described as sudden and unnatural.
According to ASP Daso, the missing children were reported by Baba Zannah Jaridama and his neighbor, Muhammad Bukar, both residents of Zannari Ali Ngoshe Area in Mafa local government. The children were identified as Anwar Baba Zannah, aged 3; Mama Baba Zannah, aged 1 year and 5 months; and Ahmed Muhammad, aged 5.
Despite initial efforts and widespread alerts to police units, the children’s whereabouts remained unknown until the late evening of September 24, 2025, when Jaridama returned to the police outpost to report the grim discovery of the children’s bodies inside his Honda Civic.
Police officers quickly responded, securing the scene and transferring the deceased to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. The bodies have since been placed in the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
CP Abdulmajid has mandated a discreet and detailed investigation to shed light on the circumstances that led to this devastating incident.
In a separate tragedy, 12-year-old Abba Umar, son of a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Borno State Council, drowned on Friday morning in River Ngadda, located in Jere local government area.
His father, an information officer with the State Ministry of Works, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, stating, “I am deeply saddened to announce the drowning of my 12-year-old son, Abba Umar, this morning, Friday, 26th September 2025, in River Ngadda behind Abba Gana Terab 505 Housing Estate, Jere. We ask for prayers as we seek to recover his body.”
CP Abdulmajid extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and assured the public that the police will provide updates as the investigations progress.
The Police Command also called on the community to stay composed and continue supporting law enforcement by sharing reliable and timely information.
