Now, the spotlight is gradually shifting towards a new name: Joy Omewa.

At just 22 years old, Omewa has been quietly dismantling defenses in Denmark’s top flight with Fortuna Hjørring, compiling statistics that rival even the most celebrated Nigerian forwards.
Her recent performance was nothing short of spectacular. In a commanding 6-1 victory over Kolding IF in the Danish Women’s League, Omewa netted two goals that showcased her confidence and flair.

At this moment, Omewa stands as the most productive Nigerian striker on the European stage.
Despite these outstanding achievements, Omewa was surprisingly left out of the Super Falcons squad announced by coach Justin Madugu for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July.
While Nigeria went on to clinch the title, sparing Madugu from criticism, Omewa’s exclusion sparked debate. Had the outcome been different, the decision would have been much harder to justify.

Formerly with Confluence Queens, Omewa has demonstrated maturity beyond her years-commanding the attack in Champions League fixtures, thriving under pressure, and proving she can shoulder the responsibility of being the main goal threat.
