MTN, a leading telecommunications company, has successfully equipped over 500 Nigerian students with essential digital resources and awarded a car as part of its innovative campus outreach initiative designed to inspire, connect, and empower the youth with skills that promote sustainable growth.
Femi Adesina, MTN’s Youth Segment Manager, shared these developments during a media briefing held at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
The event showcased a variety of engaging activities, including competitive gaming tournaments, immersive cinema experiences curated by the students, and live entertainment. The highlight was the presentation of a brand-new Changan ALSVIN vehicle to Nduka Chidera Judith, a final-year Biochemistry student.
Bridging the Gap Between Youth and Technology
Adesina emphasized that the initiative is a vibrant platform that brings MTN’s “Go Make Difference” campaign directly into the heart of Nigeria’s higher education institutions, fostering a culture of innovation and empowerment among young people.
MTN’s Commitment to Youth Development
He further explained that MTN is dedicated to strengthening its role as a catalyst for youth empowerment nationwide, aiming to create a more dynamic and resilient generation. The company’s strategy includes leveraging its extensive voice and data services-encompassing video streaming, music platforms, and tailored social media bundles-to provide students with tools that enhance both their academic and entrepreneurial pursuits.
Empowering Student Entrepreneurs
Beyond digital access, the program is designed to open avenues for students engaged in business ventures, enabling them to market their products effectively using MTN’s network. This approach aligns with recent trends showing that over 70% of Nigerian youths are increasingly turning to digital platforms to launch startups and side hustles, highlighting the importance of such empowerment initiatives.
By integrating technology with practical support, MTN’s campus invasion program exemplifies a forward-thinking model for youth engagement, fostering skills that are crucial for Nigeria’s sustainable development in the digital age.
