Liverpool FC Secures Alexander Isak in a Landmark British Transfer Deal
On the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window, Liverpool Football Club finalized the acquisition of Swedish striker Alexander Isak, setting a new British transfer record. The Premier League champions invested a staggering £125 million to bring the 25-year-old forward to Anfield, surpassing all previous transfer fees paid within the UK.
The club officially announced Isak’s signing on September 1, 2025, following intense negotiations with Newcastle United. The forward has committed to a six-year contract, ensuring his presence at Liverpool until 2031.
Isak’s Vision and Ambitions at Liverpool
Expressing his enthusiasm on Liverpool’s official platform, Isak shared, “Joining Liverpool feels incredible. It’s been a long road, but I’m thrilled to be part of this historic club and its passionate community. I’m eager to contribute and can’t wait to reunite with my new teammates and the fans.”
He emphasized his commitment to delivering goals and more, stating, “As a striker, scoring is my primary focus, but I aim to offer much more to the team. My goal is to help Liverpool win every trophy possible.”
Proven Premier League Goal-Scorer
Isak’s Premier League record speaks volumes: 54 goals in 86 appearances for Newcastle, including an impressive 23 goals last season. His tally placed him just behind Mohamed Salah in the Golden Boot race, highlighting his elite scoring ability.
This transfer eclipses the previous British record set by Chelsea’s £115 million signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023. Earlier in August, Liverpool’s initial offer of £110 million plus add-ons was declined by Newcastle, who insisted on specific conditions before agreeing to the sale.
Isak to Inherit Liverpool’s Iconic Number 9 Shirt
Alexander Isak will don the revered number 9 jersey at Liverpool, a number worn by club legends such as Robbie Fowler, Roberto Firmino, Christian Benteke, and Iago Aspas. The most recent player to sport this number was Darwin Núñez.
