Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has formally submitted a complaint to the Police Service Commission (PSC) concerning alleged misconduct by police-arrested-for-assault-over-n1m-bribe-refusal/” title=”… Operatives Arrested for Brutally Assaulting Man Who Refused to Pay N1 Million Bribe”>police officers within the Kaduna State Command.
He specifically accused the state’s Commissioner of Police and several officers of engaging in “unprofessional behavior, misuse of authority, and repeated breaches” of the Police Act 2020 alongside other relevant regulations.
In a letter dated September 8, 2025, addressed to the PSC Chairman and Chief Executive, El-Rufai called for a comprehensive and unbiased inquiry into these purported violations.
“As a Nigerian citizen and ex-governor of Kaduna State, I hereby lodge this formal complaint, urging an immediate, fair, and thorough investigation into the illegal and unconstitutional actions of the Commissioner of Police and certain officers within the Kaduna State Police Command,” El-Rufai declared.
He emphasized that his submission was driven by a deep sense of duty, reflecting his years of public service at both federal and state levels, including eight years dedicated to advancing the welfare of Kaduna’s residents.
Beyond personal concerns, El-Rufai highlighted that his petition underscores a wider imperative for accountability and integrity within the police institution.
“My motivation stems from a genuine concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which, despite its challenges, remains the cornerstone of law enforcement in our country,” he noted, urging all citizens to support the PSC in “exercising its regulatory authority to maintain discipline and uphold ethical standards.”

This petition follows recent tensions between El-Rufai and the Kaduna State Police Command.
On September 4, 2025, the police summoned El-Rufai along with six members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for interrogation over accusations including criminal conspiracy, incitement to public disorder, vandalism, and inflicting serious injury.
The summons, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi of the Criminal Investigation Department, instructed the ADC chairman in Kaduna to present El-Rufai and the others at the State CID on September 8.
Those called in alongside El-Rufai were Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (known as “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (nicknamed “Mikiya”).
The notice, titled “Investigation Activities: Case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, Mischief and Causing Grievous Hurt,” required the individuals to respond to allegations made by unidentified complainants.
Hostilities intensified recently when security forces sealed off the ADC office located at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, mere hours before the party’s Northwest leadership planned to visit members who had been victims of political violence. Observers noted a significant police presence, with multiple patrol vehicles forming a coordinated blockade around the premises.
In his petition, El-Rufai urged the PSC to take firm action to preserve professionalism and public confidence in the police, cautioning that unchecked abuses of power risk undermining trust in Nigeria’s security agencies.
