Over the past 16 months, the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has impressively amassed a total revenue of N3.7 trillion.

During this period, the command also successfully seized contraband goods valued at several billion naira.

This information was revealed in a report shared with journalists on Thursday, highlighting the achievements of ACG Babatunde Olomu during his tenure as the Customs Area Controller of Apapa.

Since taking charge on May 5, 2024, Olomu has overseen the collection of N3.7 trillion in revenue from May 2024 through July 2025.

Breaking down the monthly figures, the command recorded N175.139 billion in May 2024; N178.265 billion in June; N201.853 billion in July; N189.544 billion in August; N193.930 billion in September; N264.455 billion in October; N229.320 billion in November; and N252.530 billion in December 2024.

In the first half of 2025, the revenue continued robustly with N269.323 billion in January; N216.988 billion in February; N215.910 billion in March; N230.713 billion in April; N230.712 billion in May; N209.181 billion in June; N214.509 billion in July; and N215 billion in August, culminating in a total of N3.709 trillion during Olomu’s leadership.

The report also detailed that within 15 months, the command intercepted 75 shipments containing a variety of prohibited items, including assorted firearms, ammunition, counterfeit and expired medications, banned substances like Codeine and Tramadol, used clothing, expired margarine, wildlife skins, and stolen vehicles.

Additional confiscations involved containers filled with codeine syrup, illicit vehicles, restricted security equipment such as drones, and telecommunication devices.

Among the notable seizures were 60 units of warrior drones lacking valid end-user certificates and 53 helicopter drones removed from a container labeled CFAX3, with an estimated duty-paid value of N2.1 million.

Furthermore, ten professional FM transceiver walkie-talkies were seized alongside other contraband items.

These confiscations spanned 62 containers of 40ft size and 13 containers of 20ft size, collectively worth billions of naira.

Industry stakeholders have praised ACG Olomu’s leadership, recognizing the Apapa Command as a powerhouse for both revenue generation and enforcement under his guidance.

They emphasized that Nigeria’s achievement of reaching its 2025 revenue goals ahead of schedule marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward fiscal autonomy, with Customs playing a vital role and Apapa Customs at the forefront.

Ifeanyi Izuchukwu, a clearing agent, lauded Olomu’s efforts, attributing the success to effective collaboration among agencies and stakeholders.

“Surpassing revenue targets early while intercepting contraband worth billions highlights the critical role of the Nigeria Customs Service in stabilizing the economy and protecting national security,” he remarked.

“Under ACG Olomu, the Apapa Command has become a beacon of revenue excellence and enforcement, demonstrating that technology, vigilance, and inter-agency cooperation are essential to Nigeria’s non-oil revenue growth. As President Tinubu rightly observed, achieving the 2025 revenue target ahead of time signals a turning point in Nigeria’s fiscal independence, with Customs as a foundational pillar,” he added.

Customs Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi also commended Olomu for his role in preventing the importation of illicit goods that could have jeopardized national security.

“I extend special recognition to Comptroller Babatunde Olomu and his team for their outstanding anti-smuggling efforts,” Adeniyi stated.

“The Apapa Command manages the largest trade volume for the NCS and generates the highest revenue, which comes with elevated expectations from both the Service’s management and the government. I encourage them to sustain this exemplary performance.”

He further urged port users to engage solely in lawful trade, affirming that under his leadership, the NCS remains fully dedicated to uncovering all forms of smuggling and concealment.
