The Centre for Leadership Training (CLT) has issued a warning to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, advising her against attempting to rejoin the Senate before the Court of Appeal concludes her ongoing case.
The organization emphasized that her suspension remains valid and supported the Senate’s decision to await the court‘s ruling before proceeding with any further measures.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, CLT President Chief Azuka Francis highlighted that it would be premature for the senator to plan a return prior to September 6, as such an action would contradict the Senate’s earlier resolution.
“Senator Natasha’s proposed date for resumption is incorrect. The Senate’s suspension order is effective until Saturday, September 6, 2025. Therefore, any attempt to resume duties before this date would be premature and inconsistent with the Senate’s directive,” Francis explained.
Previously, the Senate communicated its stance to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan through a letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria. The letter clarified that since her suspension is currently under judicial review, she is not permitted to return until the appellate court issues its judgment.
“Your suspension is currently under consideration by the Court of Appeal. As the matter is sub judice, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your return until the court’s decision is delivered and the Senate formally reassesses the suspension,” the letter stated.
Senator Natasha had earlier informed the Clerk of her intention to resume plenary sessions, asserting that her six-month suspension, which commenced on March 6, had expired.
Nonetheless, CLT urged all stakeholders to honor the judicial process and demonstrate patience until the appellate court reaches a verdict.
“As an institution grounded in constitutional principles, the separation of powers, and respect for judicial authority, the Senate must not take any action that could undermine the ongoing legal proceedings,” Francis remarked.
He further underscored that safeguarding the credibility of democratic institutions depends on adherence to due process.
“The Senate is dedicated to upholding fairness, discipline, and the sanctity of its internal regulations, while remaining fully committed to the Nigerian Constitution and the judiciary’s authority. Until the courts deliver their final ruling, all involved parties should exercise patience, respect the legal process, and protect the integrity of our democratic institutions,” he concluded.
