A security specialist has provided fresh analysis regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, highlighting critical evidence that may be instrumental in apprehending the perpetrator responsible for the attack during a crowded event in Utah. Kirk, aged 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, while hosting a Turning Point USA gathering at Utah Valley University in Orem. The assailant, described as a young adult wearing dark attire, discharged a single bullet from a rooftop position before making a swift escape. Law enforcement officials have since recovered the high-powered rifle used in the shooting, along with surveillance footage and footprints believed to be linked to the suspect.
Will Geddes, a professional bodyguard who spoke with The Sun, indicated that the attack exhibited signs of meticulous preparation. He suggested the shooter might have exploited stolen or improperly used access credentials to reach the rooftop, an area typically restricted to a limited number of personnel. This implies the assailant likely had insider knowledge or conducted thorough reconnaissance. Geddes criticized the security setup, noting that Kirk was positioned beneath a fragile cabana that offered minimal protection. He argued that implementing measures such as bullet-resistant barriers, protective overhangs, or fortified structures could have significantly reduced the vulnerability to such an attack.
The fatal shot, believed to have been fired from approximately 200 meters away using a high-caliber firearm, could have been executed by either a highly skilled amateur or a trained professional, Geddes explained. Video footage captured immediately after the incident appears to show the suspect lying flat on the rooftop before sprinting across it to evade capture. Police have conducted extensive door-to-door inquiries, detaining and subsequently releasing two individuals as part of their ongoing investigation.
The tragic death of Kirk has ignited a wave of sorrow and outrage among his supporters, including former President Donald Trump, who described the event as a somber chapter in American history. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, lauded Kirk as an exceptional and even iconic figure, praising his talent for engaging young conservatives.
Kirk first gained national attention after co-founding Turning Point USA in 2012 at just 18 years old. Under his guidance, the organization evolved from a campus-focused group into a formidable political and media entity closely aligned with the MAGA movement. He was a staunch Trump ally, frequently appearing on conservative platforms and earning a reputation as a fierce activist who framed political discourse as a cultural and ideological struggle. His influence extended beyond politics into social issues, where he was a vocal opponent of progressive policies, diversity initiatives, and what he termed “woke culture.”
At the time of his passing, Kirk was married to Erika Lane Frantzve and was a devoted father to two young children. His final moments were recorded as he spoke to students about gun violence, only to be struck by a bullet seconds later. Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of panic as attendees screamed, sought cover, and fled the university grounds.
Investigators are now concentrating on how the shooter accessed the rooftop, with Geddes emphasizing that only a select few would have authorized entry. He recommended that the investigation include a review of any recently lost or stolen access cards.
While speculation continues, Geddes cautioned that it remains premature to definitively label the assassin as a professional. Nonetheless, he stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive security overhaul in response to this attack and the previous year’s unsuccessful assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
