The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) alongside the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative have commended President Bola Tinubu for instructing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to implement robust strategies aimed at lowering food prices throughout Nigeria.
Both organizations have expressed their full backing for the government’s initiatives, hopeful that these actions will secure affordable food access for all Nigerians.
In a joint declaration signed by NCPA chairman Ahmed Abubakar and Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative’s national coordinator Samaila Musa, the groups characterized the directive as a timely and necessary response to the escalating cost of living in the country.
They applauded President Tinubu’s leadership, viewing it as a clear dedication to easing the financial strain on Nigerian households.
Particularly noteworthy, they highlighted the emphasis placed by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, on guaranteeing the safe transit of agricultural products along key transport corridors.
The statement elaborated, “Representing consumers from northern Nigeria and grassroots communities, we fully understand the heavy toll that soaring food prices take on families, especially those with limited incomes.
“The surge in living expenses has become a pressing issue, undermining not only the buying power of citizens but also their overall well-being. President Tinubu’s directive to focus on reducing food costs signals a positive and necessary commitment to mitigating these challenges.
“The initiative to secure the smooth and safe movement of farm produce, as underscored by Senator Abdullahi, is a vital step. Tackling the logistical obstacles that inflate food prices will help optimize the supply chain, ultimately benefiting consumers with more affordable prices.
“It is crucial that the committee acts promptly and effectively, putting in place measures that ensure agricultural goods move efficiently from farms to marketplaces.
“We urge the Federal Executive Council committee to implement the President’s instructions swiftly and thoroughly. Collaboration with all agricultural stakeholders-including farmers, distributors, and transport operators-is essential to create a unified effort focused on driving down food prices,” the groups concluded.
