In a significant security breakthrough, Nigerian Army forces successfully disrupted terrorist activities, freed abducted individuals, and seized substantial ransom funds during coordinated operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states. Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, revealed in a statement dated Friday, September 12, 2025, that the troops recovered over ₦23 million believed to be ransom payments, alongside 160 stolen livestock.
The military campaign, conducted from September 8 to 10, targeted multiple locations including Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta Local Government Areas. The offensive commenced with synchronized attacks along the Shinkafi-Katuru-Galadi-Tubali corridor, where soldiers from the 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base in Shinkafi and the Mobile Strike Team cleared terrorist encampments nestled within the forests of Galadi and Tubali villages. The operation forced numerous bandits to retreat, many wounded by gunfire.
According to the official report, the troops intercepted several suspects during stop-and-search missions at Katuru Bridge on the Shinkafi-Katuru-Isa road. Initially, three individuals were apprehended carrying ₦8.7 million, followed by the interception of two more suspects in a black Toyota Corolla transporting ₦15 million. Investigations suggest these sums were ransom payments for locals abducted near Nigeria’s border with Niger, where terrorists have been operating covertly within the Shinkafi area. All suspects and recovered items have been transferred to relevant authorities for further inquiry.
Simultaneously, forces operating in Anka and Tureta LGAs launched an ambush against terrorists attempting to move livestock stolen from Talata Mafara and Tureta to hideouts in Bagega and Furagirke forests. The assailants fled after sustaining gunshot injuries, abandoning eight kidnapped victims and 21 sheep in the Anka region. In Tureta, troops recovered an additional 143 rustled sheep. The rescued individuals were safely reunited with their families, while the livestock was handed over to the local government chairmen of Bakura and Tureta for appropriate management.
In a separate encounter, soldiers from the 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base in Gusau LGA came under intense gunfire during a patrol along Lilo-Kofi Road. Despite the fierce resistance, the troops neutralized six terrorists, causing the remainder to scatter. Tragically, three soldiers lost their lives in the confrontation, and two others later died from critical injuries sustained.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the North West and parts of the North Central regions. The military appeals to the public to assist by providing timely and reliable intelligence to help restore lasting peace.
