The Kano State branch of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully confiscated a total of 112 kilograms of cannabis sativa, comprising 150 compressed blocks and three sacks of loose cannabis.
According to ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Public Relations Officer for the command, the discovery was made after a vehicular accident occurred on the Zaria-Kano highway near Gadar Tamburawa. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025.
Upon responding to the crash site, NDLEA officers found that a Volkswagen Golf had collided with a truck. The team promptly administered first aid and rescued the occupants by removing the vehicle’s windscreen and windows. While the passenger attempted to escape immediately after the door was opened, officers quickly detained him.
During a thorough inspection of the Volkswagen Golf, authorities uncovered the large quantity of cannabis concealed within. The driver confessed to acting on behalf of the consignor and revealed that he had previously transported similar shipments both within Kano and to other regions. He also admitted to deliberately using a one-way route to bypass NDLEA checkpoints when entering Kano State.
This case highlights two violations: reckless one-way driving that resulted in the accident, and the illegal trafficking of narcotics. The Kano NDLEA, led by ACGN AI Ahmad, remains steadfast in its mission to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in drug smuggling activities.
The agency urges the public to avoid participation in such unlawful acts and encourages citizens to report any suspicious drug-related activities to NDLEA officials promptly.
The command also praised the swift, professional, and courageous actions of the patrol officers who managed the rescue, arrest, and seizure operations. Special recognition was given to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, for his visionary leadership and continuous efforts to enhance the agency’s operational efficiency and professionalism.
The exemplary performance of the personnel on duty reflects the high standards of training, resources, and organizational discipline fostered under his guidance.
