Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the Bola Tinubu administration‘s strong commitment to tackling youth unemployment across Nigeria.
He made this statement during a courtesy visit from the newly appointed executive council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), led by Comrade Jethro Annum, in Abuja.
Akume expressed gratitude to the NYCN leadership for their decision to align with President Tinubu’s government.
He highlighted that the current administration has introduced practical policies and programs designed to ease the hardships faced by Nigerians, with a particular focus on creating employment opportunities for young people.
“As a government that prioritizes youth development, we pledge ongoing support for your initiatives, including providing a suitable secretariat and logistical assistance to enhance your efforts in mobilizing, educating, and empowering Nigerian youth nationwide to benefit from our impactful programs,” Akume stated.
On behalf of the NYCN, Board Chairman Dr. Yakubu Shendam expressed appreciation for the SGF’s warm welcome and continued backing. He reaffirmed the youth’s dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to empower Nigerians through various government-led initiatives.
Dr. Shendam specifically commended the launch of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other empowerment schemes targeting young Nigerians, all designed to break the persistent cycle of poverty.
He further noted that the administration has surpassed public expectations by implementing extensive infrastructure projects nationwide and effectively combating security challenges posed by criminal elements.
“The youth are inspired by these accomplishments and are eager to collaborate openly with the government to promote peace, security, and national progress. We also acknowledge the administration’s efforts in revitalizing the economy and strengthening our foreign reserves,” he added.
“From inheriting an empty treasury, the visionary leadership has successfully increased Nigeria’s foreign reserves to over $50 billion-a remarkable achievement that fills us with pride,” Dr. Shendam concluded.
The visit aimed to honor the SGF, seek his guidance as a senior political figure to Comrade Annum, pledge the unwavering support of Nigerian youth to the current government, and request assistance to enable the NYCN to fulfill its mandate effectively.
