The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recently apprehended a military impersonator along with 253 other individuals for various traffic offenses within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Among the 254 offenders, the FRSC successfully secured convictions for 245 during a series of Mobile Court sessions conducted between September 8 and 12, 2025, at the Nyanya Unit Command, and on September 10, 2025, at the Karu Unit Command.
According to FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, this targeted enforcement operation was executed in partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards. The initiative aimed to curb the escalating problem of traffic violations along the heavily trafficked Abuja-Nyanya route.
Ogungbemide highlighted that this corridor is frequently plagued by issues such as unauthorized route usage, vehicle overloading, and reckless driving behaviors.
“A total of 254 individuals were charged with 563 traffic-related infractions. Of these, 245 were found guilty, while nine were acquitted following judicial review,” he explained.
The spokesperson emphasized the conviction of seven particularly notorious offenders: Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, Hussaini Kabir, and Samsudeen Abdullahi.
“These individuals were convicted on multiple counts, including dangerous driving, impersonation, overloading, driving without a valid license, using mobile phones while driving, and unauthorized route violations. Their sentences ranged from three hours up to five days of community service,” Ogungbemide stated.
In a notable case, Hussaini Kabir, who not only violated traffic laws but also impersonated a military officer, received a five-day community service sentence to be served at Mambilla Barracks.
The offenses recorded spanned a broad range, including 129 cases of seatbelt non-compliance, 122 instances of driving without a valid license, 111 cases of overloading, and 63 violations related to unauthorized route usage.
Additional charges were brought against offenders for dangerous driving, running red lights, improper number plates, illegal overtaking, mobile phone use while driving, ignoring caution signs, and impersonation.
The Mobile Court proceedings were overseen by His Worship Maryam Muazu Alhaji and His Worship Huzaifa Maccido, with FCT Sector Legal Officer, CRC Cindy Talabi, acting as the prosecuting counsel throughout the trials.
