The Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (URNI) has joined forces with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) to engage approximately 17 million Nigerians living abroad, aiming to enhance the country’s global image and stimulate national progress.

This partnership was formalized during a meeting at NIDCOM’s Abuja headquarters, where URNI’s delegation, led by Brigadier General Buba Shajiaba (rtd), Chairman of the Board of Trustees, paid a visit.

Central to this alliance is a shared vision to transform international perceptions of Nigeria by leveraging cultural diplomacy, empowering youth, and strategically activating the diaspora community.

Shajiaba emphasized, “Our primary goal is to foster a profound sense of patriotism and unity, while effectively showcasing Nigeria’s vast potentials and accomplishments on the world stage. We are committed to moving beyond rhetoric towards impactful collaborations.”

He also spotlighted URNI’s international engagements, notably its partnership with Friends of Nigeria in Europe (FON), headquartered in France and co-led by John Okoro.

“These partnerships go beyond mere symbolism; they are actively enhancing cultural ties and mobilizing essential diaspora resources to support development initiatives within Nigeria,” Shajiaba remarked.

During the visit, the URNI team presented NIDCOM with its inaugural publication, “Faces of Patriotism,” which honors distinguished Nigerians and serves as a strategic guide for the nation’s rebranding efforts.

Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, NIDCOM’s secretary, accepted the book on behalf of Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa and praised URNI’s dedication, underscoring the diaspora’s indispensable role.

“The Nigerian diaspora is a significant wellspring of talent and resources. Their involvement in investment, innovation, and diplomatic efforts is crucial to enhancing Nigeria’s international reputation.

“We urge URNI to synchronize its initiatives with NIDCOM’s key programs. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in fostering global trust in Nigeria while strengthening patriotism and unity domestically,” Bassi stated.

The URNI delegation lauded Dabiri-Erewa for her forward-thinking leadership in advocating for the rights, welfare, and empowerment of Nigerians overseas, highlighting how NIDCOM’s focus on diaspora investment and policy aligns closely with URNI’s objectives.

Since its inception in 2007, URNI has been a grassroots champion of national pride. Both organizations reaffirmed their dedication to this mission, confident that their renewed partnership will serve as a dynamic force to unite Nigerians worldwide in the collective pursuit of national rebranding.
