Ambassador Felicia Iwobi, representing Nigeria within the African Food Action Club-an initiative spearheaded by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA)-has highlighted the critical need for enhanced investment in agricultural research and food production across Nigeria.
This appeal came on the heels of the initiative’s inauguration in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, coinciding with the United Nations Food Systems Summit.
In her address, Ambassador Iwobi underscored the urgency of channeling resources into various facets of agriculture, including research and development, climate-smart farming techniques, food intervention strategies, digital agriculture innovations, land tenure security, seed availability, mechanization, and improved access to financing. She emphasized that such comprehensive support would empower Nigerians to capitalize on the momentum generated by the UN Food Systems Summit, fostering greater commitment to advancing food production and agricultural research.
She also noted that the launch of the African Food Action Club in Nigeria aims to spotlight the importance of agricultural investments, drawing increased focus from stakeholders and policymakers alike.
Ambassador Iwobi expressed confidence that prioritizing agricultural funding will be instrumental in achieving the overarching objective of food security within Nigeria.
Recognizing key figures at the summit, she extended sincere gratitude to Nigeria’s Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, for his impactful address. “His visionary leadership and dedication to revolutionizing Nigeria’s agricultural landscape through innovative, technology-driven approaches and fostering private sector engagement are truly commendable. His focus on climate-resilient agricultural investments, scaling food production, and empowering smallholder farmers was particularly inspiring,” she remarked.
Additionally, Ambassador Iwobi acknowledged the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, whose participation reinforced the Nigerian government’s steadfast commitment to sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives.
