The Imo State Police Command has reported the elimination of numerous terrorists in the communities of Ezioha, Umuele, Ubuakpu, and Amakor within the state.

DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo Police Command, shared this update on Wednesday following a visit by senior officials from various service agencies to the joint security forces operating in Mbaitoli and Njaba local government areas.

However, Okoye did not verify claims circulating on social media regarding the capture of Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, also known as ‘Gentle de Yahoo,’ a wanted commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

He explained that coordinated special security operations are actively underway in Ezioha (Mbaitoli LGA) as well as in Umuele, Ubuakpu, and Amakor (Njaba LGA).

The police spokesperson revealed that several terrorist hideouts associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the ESN have been dismantled, resulting in the deaths of multiple terrorists.

Okoye added that some suspects were apprehended, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

He urged residents of Imo State to promptly report anyone suspected of treating gunshot injuries to the authorities.

Furthermore, Okoye called on the public to assist security efforts by providing valuable intelligence, especially regarding individuals who might be harboring or aiding wounded suspects.

“We encourage citizens to support ongoing operations by sharing reliable information about suspicious activities via 0803 477 3600, and to immediately report anyone seen with or treating gunshot wounds at the nearest police station,” he emphasized.

Recovered items from the terrorist camps include a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition. Additionally, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were safely neutralized by the Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, along with other incriminating materials.

The visit by top security officials was intended to boost the morale of the operatives, evaluate the progress of the mission, and reinforce the collective commitment of security agencies to restore peace and stability throughout Imo State.

Among the dignitaries present were Brigadier General I. M. Abass, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Obinze; Air Commodore D. E. Bello, Commander of the Nigerian Air Force 211 Quick Response Group (QRG); Commodore M. A. Abass, Commander of the Oguta Naval Base; and Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), DD Uche Dunkwu.

Okoye reassured the public that security agencies remain dedicated to maintaining peace and eradicating criminal elements. He encouraged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, affirming that normalcy has been restored across the state.
