Mohammed Shehu, the representative for Fagge federal constituency in the House of Representatives, revealed that he has allocated approximately N50 million to support 354 underprivileged young women from his constituency in their marriage preparations.
During a press briefing in Kano on Thursday, Shehu shared an overview of his accomplishments over the last two years.
He explained that the support package comprises financial aid, household items such as furniture, mattresses, and pillows, all aimed at empowering young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter matrimony with dignity and adequate readiness.
“Our commitment to assisting young women in their journey to married life transcends mere material provision; it is about fostering resilient families and nurturing stronger communities,” Shehu emphasized.
He further disclosed that he has awarded scholarships totaling over N300 million to more than 3,500 needy students enrolled in various tertiary institutions. Additionally, he provided N250,000 scholarships to upwards of 25 Law School aspirants and covered registration fees for thousands of secondary school students sitting for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations.
On the front of educational infrastructure, Shehu highlighted the establishment of a Science Model Primary School in Kwachiri Maidorawa, complete with computer labs and libraries. Moreover, he distributed over 2,000 school uniforms to pupils throughout the constituency.
In healthcare, Shehu reported an investment of N80 million directed towards medical support for patients battling cancer, kidney ailments, tuberculosis, and other serious illnesses. This includes the renovation of medical equipment at Sheikh Jidda General Hospital and the enhancement of facilities at Sabo Garba Primary Healthcare Centre within his jurisdiction.
He also noted that more than 2,000 children in Fagge have benefited from a large-scale circumcision initiative, alongside ongoing medical outreach programs targeting underserved communities during the period under review.
Regarding infrastructure, Shehu mentioned the completion of a 1.6-kilometer road linking Kings College Alasawa to Kuka Maigado, the installation of over 800 solar-powered streetlights, and the drilling of multiple boreholes across various neighborhoods.
Furthermore, he has economically empowered 219 individuals through business grants amounting to N19.65 million. His outreach extended to 3,000 beneficiaries who received motorcycles, refrigerators, sewing machines, and other entrepreneurial tools. These efforts, coupled with his sponsorship of several bills and motions, have generated tangible benefits for his constituents.
