In a tragic event in India, a woman was taken into custody for allegedly ending the life of her three-year-old daughter by throwing her into a lake.
The incident occurred late on the night of September 16, when the mother, Anjali, reportedly sang a lullaby to soothe her daughter before taking her for a walk near Ajmer’s Ana Sagar Lake.
According to reports, Anjali then threw the child into the lake and subsequently feigned ignorance about her whereabouts.
Sources suggest that Anjali had grown weary of constant ridicule from her live-in partner regarding her daughter Kavya, who was from her previous marriage.
Originally from Sakulpura in the Banaras district of Uttar Pradesh, Anjali was living with her partner, Alkesh, in a live-in relationship.
The couple, along with the young girl, resided in Ajmer’s Datanagar neighborhood.
Initial investigations indicate that Anjali acted alone in the crime, with her partner being informed about the child’s disappearance around 2 a.m., according to NDTV.
After separating from her first husband, Anjali relocated to Ajmer, where she began cohabiting with Alkesh. Both were employed at a local hotel, with Anjali working as a receptionist.
Following the revelation of the case, the Christian Ganj police apprehended Anjali and filed a murder charge against her. Authorities are also probing whether Alkesh had any involvement in the incident.
During a late-night patrol, Head Constable Govind Sharma encountered Anjali and Alkesh walking along a road from Vaishali Nagar to Bajrang Garh, as reported by NDTV.
When questioned, Anjali claimed she had taken her daughter out that night, but the child mysteriously vanished during their walk. She insisted they had searched throughout the night without success.
“When police officers on patrol approached her, she stated her daughter was missing and that she was actively searching. She declined assistance from the police in the search,” said Circle Officer Rudraprakash Sharma, according to PTI.
Subsequently, authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the vicinity, which captured Anjali carrying her daughter near Ana Sagar Lake.

The recordings also showed Anjali using her mobile phone around 1:30 a.m., contradicting her earlier statements and raising suspicion.
Following a thorough search operation, the child’s body was recovered from Ana Sagar Lake on the morning of September 17. Upon further questioning, Anjali admitted to causing her daughter’s death by throwing her into the artificial lake.
