Lagos Police Crack Down on Notorious Syndicate Vandalizing Exotic Cars, Nab Mastermind Posing as Security Guard

Lagos State Police Command detectives have apprehended Jude Onouha, 46, identified as the mastermind behind a criminal group infamous for impersonating security personnel. This gang deceives estate security teams by wearing counterfeit security uniforms and wielding a Mercedes car jack altered to mimic firearms, enabling them to infiltrate residential estates across Lagos.

Investigations reveal that Onouha and his accomplices routinely pose as legitimate security officers, using their fabricated attire and the disguised car jack to convince estate guards of their authority. Under this guise, they gain entry into upscale neighborhoods where they target luxury vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus LX 650, Mercedes-Benz models, and other SUVs. Their modus operandi involves systematically damaging these vehicles and stripping them of valuable parts including engine control units (brainboxes), window glass, wiring harnesses, side mirrors, and electronic control modules.

The arrested gang leader has admitted involvement and is cooperating with law enforcement to expose further details of the operation. Authorities are intensifying efforts to capture additional members of the syndicate for thorough investigation and prosecution. Items seized from Onouha include the modified Mercedes car jack and a cap labeled “Special Force,” which he used to reinforce his false identity as a security operative.

The police urge estate managers and security personnel to remain alert and exercise stringent verification procedures when individuals claim to be security agents seeking access to residential compounds. Residents are encouraged to verify such claims by contacting their local Divisional Police Officer (DPO) before granting entry. Any suspicious persons should be promptly reported to the nearest police station to prevent potential criminal activity.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has called on the public and estate administrators to maintain heightened vigilance and foster close cooperation with their DPOs. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the Command’s emergency hotlines-08063299264, 09053872208, and 08087332678-for swift police response. CP Jimoh reassures that through collective alertness, collaboration, and timely reporting, the security of Lagos communities will be significantly enhanced.
