New information has surfaced revealing how the forces of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) once again demonstrated exceptional bravery and determination by thwarting aggressive attempts by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants to infiltrate the resettled communities of Banki and Bula Yobe in Borno State.
According to senior military officials, these areas are home to more than 10,000 households who have returned after enduring years of displacement caused by insurgent activities.
On September 18, 2025, ISWAP launched synchronized assaults aimed at destabilizing the fragile peace and reimposing fear and displacement on the local population.
Military insiders revealed that ground forces, bolstered by OPHK’s air support, decisively repelled the attackers, safeguarding the lives and properties of over 10,000 families.
The militants suffered significant casualties in personnel and equipment, ultimately retreating in confusion and disorder.
“The troops stationed in Banki, reinforced by additional units, held their ground firmly to defend the neighboring towns, protecting vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly from the terrorists’ brutal intentions,” an anonymous source disclosed.
In Bula Yobe, soldiers exhibited outstanding tactical discipline and valor, successfully countering multiple enemy attempts to penetrate the area’s defenses, including direct assaults on military positions.
These courageous efforts also ensured the safety of farmers who had recently resumed cultivating their lands, striving to restore their livelihoods.
“Thanks to their unwavering commitment, no community was overtaken, and families remained secure under the vigilant protection of the military,” the source added.
During an operational inspection in Banki on September 19, 2025, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, Acting General Officer Commanding (Ag GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK, praised the troops for their exceptional dedication and confirmed that the combined air and ground counteroffensive had delivered a crushing defeat to the insurgents.
He reassured residents, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders involved in relief efforts that the Nigerian Army is steadfast in its mission to safeguard the people and their livelihoods.
The Army mourned the loss of one brave soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those wounded while defending thousands of families.
“The valor of these soldiers, along with countless others before them, exemplifies the Army’s unwavering commitment to securing peace, dignity, and safety for Nigerians returning to their homes after prolonged displacement,” Brigadier General Unachukwu emphasized.
He affirmed that the Nigerian Army remains resilient and more determined than ever to continue its ongoing operations.
Under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Nigerian Army is resolute in its duty to protect lives and property, operating within a coordinated joint and multi-agency framework.
“The nation owes a profound debt of gratitude to the wounded heroes and fallen soldiers who keep hope alive in communities rising from the devastation of conflict,” he concluded.
