Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential hopeful for the 2023 general elections, has firmly rejected circulating social media images that falsely claim he recently met with former U.S. President Donald Trump and Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, a prominent transport union leader.

In a public statement posted on his X account this Wednesday, Obi labeled the photos and their accompanying stories as “fabricated, manipulated, and completely untrue.”

“I have become aware of certain images being shared online that wrongly suggest I attended meetings that never took place,” the ex-governor of Anambra State clarified.

“One such image attempts to show me alongside Donald Trump, falsely asserting that he commended me. Another image tries to portray me with MC Oluomo in his office. I want to make it absolutely clear that both images are counterfeit and altered, and the narratives linked to them are entirely baseless. I have not met Mr. Trump recently, nor have I engaged in any meeting with MC Oluomo,” Obi emphasized.

Obi expressed deep concern over the ongoing threat posed by misinformation and fake news in Nigeria, highlighting that such deceptive content is intentionally crafted to mislead and divert public attention.

“These falsehoods underscore the ongoing menace of disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but are deliberately created to confuse, mislead, and distract the populace,” he noted.

The former governor urged both Nigerians and the global audience to stay alert amid the rising tide of disinformation campaigns.

He called on everyone to critically assess information before sharing it online and to reject the spread of propaganda that erodes truth and ethical standards.

“It is imperative for Nigerians and the international community to exercise caution, verify facts before dissemination, and resist the culture of propaganda that compromises truth and integrity,” Obi advised.

Furthermore, Obi clarified that any legitimate meetings of such significance would have been publicly announced through his official channels.

He stressed that his political approach has never relied on superficial publicity or external endorsements.

“To be clear, had these meetings occurred, I would have personally announced them on my X platform. My political journey is not about chasing accolades or cheap publicity; it is about addressing Nigeria’s core challenges with honesty, responsibility, and transparency,” he affirmed.

Reiterating his commitment, Obi explained that his primary focus remains on enhancing the welfare of Nigerians by confronting insecurity, reinforcing the rule of law, revitalizing education and healthcare systems, and lifting millions out of poverty.

“My political mission is centered on improving the lives of Nigerians by tackling insecurity, upholding the rule of law, reforming education and healthcare, and alleviating poverty for millions,” he concluded.
