Drone Attack from Yemen Hits Eilat: Israeli Army Reports 20 Injured in Shocking Strike

BREAKING NEWS,

Emergency responders confirm two individuals critically wounded in southern Israel following a failed drone interception.

The Israeli Defense Forces have reported that a drone originating from Yemen struck the southern coastal city of Eilat. Emergency teams have confirmed that over 20 individuals sustained injuries, with two in critical condition, amid Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.

According to official military communications, the unmanned aerial vehicle crashed near Eilat on the shores of the Red Sea on Wednesday after air defense systems failed to neutralize the threat.

Authorities have urged residents to adhere strictly to the safety protocols issued by the Home Front Command and to stay updated with any new instructions disseminated through official channels.

Medical responders from Magen David Adom reported that while two victims are in severe condition, others suffered from moderate to minor wounds.

Law enforcement agencies have deployed bomb disposal units to assess the debris, cautioning the public against approaching the crash site or handling any fragments that might contain explosives.

Al Jazeera correspondent Hamdah Salhut, reporting from Amman due to the network’s ban in Israel, highlighted that Eilat has previously been targeted. “Just last week, a similar drone attack by the Houthi movement impacted the city,” she noted, referencing the Yemeni faction that has expressed solidarity with Palestinians by launching attacks on Israel.

“Israel had then announced an inquiry into why its interception systems did not activate. It is expected that a similar investigation will follow this latest failure.”

Since the onset of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have launched multiple drone and missile strikes against Israeli targets. Their operations have also extended to vessels associated with Israel in the Red Sea, disrupting key maritime routes.

Most of these aerial and missile threats have either been intercepted or failed to reach Israeli territory.

In retaliation, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes across Yemen, including in the capital city of Sanaa. Recently, Israel faced allegations of causing the deaths of 31 journalists in Yemen during these operations.

At the end of last month, an Israeli airstrike assassinated Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi in Sanaa. The Houthi leadership has vowed retribution for his killing and the loss of nearly half of his cabinet members.
