In his previous remarks about Stanley Nwabali, Luc Eymael hinted at a possible conflict between the Super Eagles goalkeeper and Chippa United…
Contrary to earlier interpretations, Chippa United’s coach Luc Eymael has clarified that his statements regarding Stanley Nwabali were misunderstood, affirming that the Nigerian international maintains a strong bond with the club, according to Soccernet.ng.
Following Chippa United’s recent fixture against Polokwane, where Nwabali was notably absent, Eymael suggested there were tensions between the player and the club, sparking speculation about the goalkeeper’s future amid transfer rumors across Africa and beyond.
Eymael’s comments initially gave the impression that Nwabali was dissatisfied or seeking to leave, but the narrative shifted when the Super Eagles custodian was reinstated in the starting eleven for the match against Sekhukhune just days later. In that game, Nwabali’s crucial last-minute penalty save secured a 1-1 draw for his team.
Observing Nwabali’s demeanor and interactions with teammates during and after the match, there were no visible signs of discontent or alienation.
Luc Eymael Sets the Record Straight on Stanley Nwabali’s Status
In the aftermath of the Sekhukhune game, Luc Eymael addressed questions about Nwabali’s situation, revealing that his earlier remarks were the result of a misunderstanding.

The Belgian coach explained that Nwabali enjoys a positive rapport with Chippa United and that his absence against Polokwane was due to a minor injury.
“There was a bit of miscommunication, not just with Stanley but also involving the medical team,” Eymael explained.
“He tried to play despite not being fully fit, and you witnessed his value during the Sekhukhune match. He brings calmness and reliability to the defense. The confusion arose because I didn’t have all the facts at the time.”
“When you asked me earlier, I said it was a private matter because I wasn’t fully informed-different people were giving me conflicting information. Without complete communication, I couldn’t provide an accurate assessment, which led to my poorly conveyed comments,” Eymael added.

Chippa United will be eager to keep Nwabali in peak condition, as he has been a standout performer this season.
Simultaneously, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is expected to rely heavily on the 29-year-old goalkeeper as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for October.
