In a significant effort to transform education in Northern Nigeria, Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, the internationally acclaimed winner of the TeenEagle3 English Language Global Finals, has initiated a campaign advocating for the exclusive use of English within schools.
Her campaign promotes the gradual elimination of indigenous languages from academic environments.
This movement, named “Always Speak English: No More Vernacular in Schools,” was officially launched during a recognition event held at Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Abuja, where Nafisa is currently enrolled. The event was attended by representatives from the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and Zenith Bank.
According to a statement from her media representative, Mallam Hassan Salihu, Nafisa passionately highlighted how mastering English can unlock vast global opportunities for students throughout Northern Nigeria.
The statement underscored that this campaign embodies Nafisa’s vision of empowering students in the region to excel on an international platform.
Representing her fellow students, Nafisa emphasized that English transcends being merely a school subject; it is an essential instrument for achievement.
“English is not just another subject; it serves as a key to numerous opportunities. Proficiency in English enables students to access advanced education, global knowledge, and innovative academic achievements,” she explained.
“Conversely, inadequate English skills can hinder progress, restricting access to competitive examinations, research endeavors, and global interactions,” she added.
The campaign is part of a larger initiative she founded called English Language for Peace and Development, which aims to enhance literacy, boost academic performance, foster peace, and broaden economic and educational prospects for young people in Northern Nigeria.
Nafisa expressed heartfelt gratitude to the ACF and Zenith Bank for their endorsement, describing their support as a powerful commitment to youth empowerment, educational progress, and the future prosperity of Northern Nigeria.
She also called on regional leaders to strengthen partnerships with institutions like NTIC, praising the school for its blend of academic rigor and character building.
The Arewa Consultative Forum voiced its full endorsement of Nafisa’s campaign, noting that it aligns seamlessly with the forum’s overarching mission to advance education and peace throughout the region.
