The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide detailed explanations on the $250 million agreement recently signed with the European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, described the governor’s announcement as “a source of embarrassment to Edo people.”
He stressed that the opposition would no longer tolerate opacity in the state’s fiscal management.
The state government had announced on September 25, that Governor Okpebholo signed the agreement during the Edo State Global Investment Summit in Glasgow, Scotland. According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the deal with EuroAfrica CCI, an umbrella body representing chambers of commerce in 98 countries, was designed to facilitate strategic investment in Edo over the next three to five years.

The PDP, however, insisted that the administration must disclose the specifics of the arrangement. Osa-Ogbegie said: “We will demand clarity on the governor’s claim of a $250m investment from Glasgow that has become a source of embarrassment to Edo people at the moment. We will question the abandonment of projects initiated under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, and we will shine light on fiscal management practices that appear to ignore transparency and responsibility.”
The party further emphasized that its loyalty remained with Edo citizens rather than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to support policies that uplift the people while resisting measures deemed “oppressive, wasteful, or deceptive.” Osa-Ogbegie also challenged the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, and the Commissioner for Information, Paul Ohonbamu, to prepare for what he described as “robust engagements.”
The statement coincided with the inauguration of a new PDP executive committee in the state. Tony Aziegbemi was returned as chairman, while other key officers include Victor Enoghoma (deputy chairman), Henry Tenebe (secretary), Monday Osaigbovo (vice chairman, South), Adekunle Oboh (vice chairman, Central), Richard Anetekhia (vice chairman, North), Ogbeide Ifaluyu-Isibor (organising secretary), John Adodo (financial secretary), Benedicta Attoh (women leader), Paul Itua (legal adviser), Liberty Ogboh (treasurer), Austin Edosowan (youth leader), Obas Stephen (auditor), and Osa-Ogbegie as publicity secretary.
