Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly condemned the murder of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, pledging that those responsible will be identified and held accountable.
In a police-arrest-10-stolen-motorcycle-receivers-recover-7/” title=”Kano … Crack Down: Arrest 10 Motorcycle Thieves' Receivers, Recover Seven Stolen Bikes”>statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike expressed deep sorrow over Maduagwu’s untimely death, describing it as a heartbreaking tragedy that has deeply affected the nation.
“It is truly devastating that such a bright and promising life was taken away so abruptly. This is a grievous loss,” the Minister lamented.
Offering his sympathies to the Arise News team, Wike assured the public that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death.
“Somtochukwu’s passing is not only a blow to the Arise News family but also to the Nigerian journalism community and the country at large,” he emphasized, committing his administration’s full support to the ongoing police inquiry.
The statement further revealed that the FCT Administration is actively working alongside security agencies to ensure justice is served.
Wike confirmed that the deceased was admitted to Maitama General Hospital around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, already lifeless.
“The initial medical findings will be handed over to the police to assist in their investigation, and every possible measure will be taken to uncover the truth behind her death,” the Minister added.
He concluded with a heartfelt prayer, asking for divine comfort for her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
Additionally, Wike extended his condolences to Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News, and the broader media fraternity.
