Once again, the Lagos State Government alongside the All Progressives Congress (APC) is engulfed in grief following the demise of another female local government official, marking the fifth such loss within a span of two months.
The most recent loss is that of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, who served as the Council Manager for Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and also held the position of Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State. She passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a short illness, according to reports.
In Lagos, Council Managers function as the chief administrative officers for the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs, responsible for financial oversight and general administration.
The Forum of Council Managers officially announced her passing on Tuesday, stating: “With full acceptance of Allah’s will, we mourn the loss of our esteemed Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola, who departed this life on Monday, September 29, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her untimely death.”
Her burial will follow Islamic traditions on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The Janazah prayers are set to take place at Al Kitab Mosque, located on Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, immediately after the Zuhr prayer at approximately 1:00 p.m., with the interment scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery in Igbe Lara.
This unfortunate event adds to a series of recent fatalities among female council officials since the inauguration of the current local government administration on July 27, 2025. Previous losses include Mrs. Oluwakemi Rufai, Councillor for Ward C in Ibeju Lekki (August 13), Mrs. Zainab Shotayo, Councillor for Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye (August 18), Princess Oluremi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA (September 20), and Mrs. Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, Councillor for Ward F in Somolu (September 21).
Commenting on the tragedy, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo expressed deep sorrow, describing Akintola’s death as “a heartbreaking event.” He remarked, “The APC received the news of Mrs. Adebimpe Akintola’s passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, with profound shock and sadness. Her death, occurring amid the state’s ongoing mourning for other prominent female local government officials lost in rapid succession, underscores the fragile nature of life and the significant void left in public service. Mrs. Akintola was a dedicated administrator, a hardworking public servant, and a reliable pillar in grassroots governance. Her efforts toward the advancement of her council area will be greatly missed.”
He further extended heartfelt sympathies to her family, the residents of Coker Aguda LCDA, the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, and her colleagues throughout the local government system in Lagos State.
