Unions representing healthcare professionals in Kaduna State have expressed strong approval of Governor Uba Sani’s groundbreaking initiatives that have significantly revitalized the state’s medical sector.
During a joint media briefing held in Kaduna on Tuesday, prominent organizations including the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (AMLSN), and the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) collectively praised the governor for fully implementing the updated 2024 CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures. Valued at over ₦518 million monthly and exceeding ₦6.2 billion annually, this adjustment ended a prolonged period of wage stagnation for health workers and reinstated respect within the medical profession.
The unions also welcomed the governor’s directive mandating local government authorities to disburse 60 percent of CONHESS payments to primary healthcare personnel. Additionally, they applauded the policy ensuring automatic appointment of 2025 graduates from Kaduna State University’s medical program as House Officers, alongside the reinstatement of a three-year service bond for state-funded medical students and resident doctors.
Significant improvements in healthcare infrastructure were highlighted, including the establishment of a new 300-bed specialist hospital, refurbishment of 15 general hospitals, and the upgrade of 200 primary healthcare centers. The administration has also invested in constructing oxygen production facilities and neonatal care units across all senatorial districts, acquiring modern medical equipment and ambulances, and committing to the yearly recruitment of 1,800 healthcare professionals.
“Governor Sani’s leadership has revitalized morale, enhanced workforce retention, and set Kaduna State as a benchmark for healthcare excellence nationwide,” the unions affirmed.
