The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State emphasizes that Nigeria’s restoration as Africa’s leading nation hinges on the integrity and godly character of its leaders at every level.
Rev. Fr. Williams Awoshiri, who serves as the chairman of CAN in Taraba, encouraged Nigerians to unite in prayer and actively contribute to the nation’s peace and development.
Marking the 65th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, Awoshiri extended congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all citizens, urging public officials to regard their roles as a solemn responsibility and a chance to promote effective governance.
In his address titled, “Sixty-Five Years Post-Independence: A Nation Tested,” he acknowledged the challenges faced but highlighted the enduring resilience and faith demonstrated by Nigerians.
“This milestone is not merely a time for festivity but also an opportunity for deep reflection and a renewed dedication to the principles of unity, justice, peace, and accountable leadership,” he stated.
“Representing the Christian community in Taraba State, we appeal to all Nigerians to persist in praying and striving for the nation’s harmony and advancement,” Awoshiri added.
He further called on leaders-from the highest offices to local authorities-to embrace their duties as a sacred trust, ensuring governance that benefits every individual, irrespective of their faith, ethnicity, or political stance.
Quoting Scripture, he reminded, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance” (Psalm 33:12). He affirmed that grounding Nigeria in spiritual values is essential for the country to fulfill its potential as a symbol of hope and progress across Africa and beyond.
