Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, the newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, has officially announced his withdrawal from political life, emphasizing that his role as a traditional ruler precludes any further political involvement.
He made this declaration during a visit from prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu, and other distinguished guests.
Reflecting on his political journey, the monarch recounted his collaborations with Atiku and other leaders, highlighting that his ascension to the Olubadan throne marks the end of his political career.
As the new custodian of Ibadanland’s traditions, Oba Ladoja pledged to dedicate his reign to upholding justice and equity. He stated, “I have stepped away from politics; my focus is solely on serving as Olubadan. You are all welcome to my palace.”
He continued, “My political path began with the Social Democratic Party, and we shared experiences in exile and within the People’s Democratic Party. Later, I sought to establish a distinct identity through the Accord Party, which gained recognition locally. I understand the cyclical nature of politics, but my commitment now lies elsewhere.”
“Religious leaders have reminded me that the essence of leadership is to champion fairness and justice. My mission is to serve not only Ibadan and Oyo State but also to extend goodwill across Africa and beyond. I look forward to your guidance and support in this new chapter.”
