The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has urged the federal government to escalate efforts in capturing those responsible for the recent violent attacks in Kwara communities and ensure they face justice.
He also appealed to Nigerians to unite firmly against what he described as ruthless killers and adversaries of the nation who derive satisfaction from senselessly taking innocent lives.
Oba Owoade emphasized that rooting out these criminal elements is crucial to reclaiming the nation’s future from chaos and savagery. He stressed that cultural values that honor the sanctity of life and human dignity must never be compromised by malevolent forces.
This call to action follows the tragic killings of several Yoruba individuals, allegedly by Fulani herdsmen, in Oke Ode, Kwara State.
In a statement released on Thursday by the monarch’s media representative, Bode Durojaye, it was revealed that Oba Owoade had reached out to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq regarding the disturbing incidents.
Durojaye noted that the governor reassured the Alaafin that military forces had been dispatched to the affected areas to restore calm and protect the local population.
“It is imperative for government officials, political leaders, and citizens alike to confront the root causes of our escalating insecurity, which is fueled by criminal activities, insurgency, and recently, terrorism linked to herdsmen,” the statement said.
“Security must not be taken lightly by our leaders and the public. Immediate and strategic measures are needed to develop a robust security framework that fosters a stable and peaceful environment, essential for the country’s progress.”
Oba Owoade further highlighted the importance of embracing unity amid diversity, urging that while national cohesion is vital, acknowledging and respecting our differences is equally important.
While praising the dedication and resilience of security agencies, the Alaafin cautioned against any actions that could undermine peace, order, and national unity.
