Honorable Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), has conveyed profound sadness over the untimely death of Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).
Engr. Akindoju passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Abuja, leaving a significant void in the Nigerian sports community.
In a statement released Thursday evening by his Media Special Assistant, Kola Daniel, Hon. Olopade described the loss as a tremendous blow to the nation’s sporting fraternity, emphasizing that the impact of his absence will be deeply felt for years ahead.
He lauded the late tennis leader as a man of integrity and humility, whose dedicated stewardship propelled Nigerian tennis toward consistent progress and achievement.
“It’s still hard to accept that Engr. Akindoju is no longer with us, especially after seeing his vibrant spirit during his recent visit to my office. His passing is a significant setback not only for tennis enthusiasts but for the entire country,” Olopade remarked.
“Engr. Akindoju’s unwavering commitment to nurturing Nigerian tennis and his vision for cultivating future champions was evident to all who knew him.”
The Director-General also pledged the Commission’s unwavering support to the bereaved family during this difficult period.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, and the Commission is dedicated to providing continuous assistance and comfort to them throughout this challenging time,” the statement concluded.
