The handover ceremony took place at the Maisandari Housing Estate in Damaturu, the state capital, where the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, represented by Mathius Iliya Kastula, formally transferred the properties to Governor Mai Mala Buni.
At the event, Governor Buni was represented by Ahmad Buba, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, who praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing the transfer of the estate to the state government.
He highlighted that this move underscores the President’s dedication to empowering states in tackling essential developmental challenges.
Governor Buni remarked, “This initiative transcends mere construction; it is about restoring dignity by providing our citizens with affordable and quality housing.”
Both the minister and Muazu Abubakar, the state’s Housing Controller, lauded Governor Buni’s visionary approach in securing the estate for the benefit of the populace.
They emphasized that this acquisition exemplifies the administration’s commitment to enhancing the living standards of civil servants and low-income families.
Commissioner Buba detailed that out of the 208 units originally developed by the federal government, Yobe State purchased 176, with plans to complete and refurbish the remaining 32 units to ensure they meet required standards before being allocated.
He further explained that this strategic acquisition is expected to alleviate the housing deficit, reduce urban congestion, stabilize rental prices, generate employment through renovation efforts, and foster economic development in surrounding communities.
