A harrowing video has surfaced depicting the moment militants from the Boko Haram group stormed Kirawa town, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack forced residents, including vulnerable women and children, to flee across the border into neighboring Cameroonian villages seeking safety.
Once the insurgents confirmed the area was deserted, they proceeded to ignite widespread fires throughout the town, destroying homes, businesses, places of worship, vehicles, and various other structures.
Amidst the chaos, a narrator speaking in Hausa revealed that the militants also torched the palace of the community’s District Head, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Abubakar. This brutal act compelled him and his family to escape to Kerawa in Cameroon, just across the border.
“At this moment, Kirawa is completely empty; all inhabitants have fled. Our district head is currently taking refuge in Kerawa, Cameroon. They urgently require shelter and humanitarian assistance,” the narrator explained.
“Numerous residents have sought sanctuary in Cameroon, while others are dispersed across various villages in Borno and Maiduguri, where military forces are stationed,” he added.
