On Friday, a group of agitated youths in the Idogun community, located within the Ose local government area of Ondo State, reportedly launched a violent assault on the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, along with his wife and their son, Prince Victor Bakare.
The attack took place in Ishara Quarters during the New Yam Festival celebrations, when Prince Victor had come to join his parents in the festivities.
Speaking to reporters at the palace, Prince Victor showed visible wounds he claimed were inflicted by the assailants. He recounted how the youths subjected his family to degrading treatment, including forcibly stripping his mother partially naked, dousing him with urine and other unsanitary liquids, and physically attacking his father, the monarch.
Oba Moses Bakare described the incident as part of an ongoing pattern of “unprovoked aggression” from a segment of the local youth population. He condemned the attack as “cruel and regrettable,” but praised the prompt intervention of law enforcement officers and the Amotekun security corps, whose presence helped to contain the violence before it spiraled further.
Mr. Omatayo Johnson, the Amotekun Coordinator for the area, confirmed that the rapid deployment of security forces was instrumental in preventing the situation from escalating into a larger conflict.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, affirmed that the matter is currently under thorough investigation. He assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
