The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, yesterday launched a donation of food items to vulnerable groups in Yobe State.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim Shettima, the First Lady disclosed that the donation was part of the food outreach program under the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals.

Mrs. Tinubu explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative focuses on empowering women in agriculture by providing them with training, start-up kits, and resources to boost agricultural production. She also emphasized that the initiative aligns with both national and state agricultural policies designed to reduce dependence on food imports.

Additionally, she noted that the initiative targets senior citizens and people with special needs, offering them free medical support. As part of the program, 200 individuals in each of Nigeria’s 36 states will receive similar assistance.

In her response, the wife of Yobe State’s governor and state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, expressed her gratitude for the support extended to vulnerable groups in the state.

“I wish to register our profound gratitude and appreciation for your demonstration of love and compassion through this visit and support for our people,” she said. “I am pleased to inform you that the government of my dear husband, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, has fully embraced the Renewed Hope Initiative and is providing significant support to women, children, and vulnerable groups.”

She further added that the state government has been working diligently to support women, particularly through the distribution of household items, skills acquisition programs, and economic empowerment initiatives.

“I am proud to say that a considerable number of women have been economically empowered under the post-insurgency recovery program,” she said. “In a deliberate effort to promote girl-child education in the state, the government has established eight girls’ secondary schools, with more to be established in the near future.”

Hajiya Hafsat also highlighted the state’s achievement in global sports, noting that Yobe State had produced three World Champions at the TeenEagle 2025 Global Championship in London, United Kingdom: Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukayya Mohammed Fema, and Khadija Kashim Kalli, who have made both Yobe State and Nigeria proud.

She assured continued support for the ideals of the Renewed Hope Initiative, aiming to improve the lives of Nigerians.

Also speaking, Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, assured the people of Yobe State of the government’s support for the Renewed Hope Initiative. He stated that both the state government and the Renewed Hope Initiative are aligned in their efforts to provide support to women and vulnerable individuals in the state.
