Major General Abubakar Adamu (rtd), the North East zonal director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), has emphasized the importance of intelligence exchange and active community involvement as essential strategies to curb the spread of illegal firearms.

During a recent awareness visit to the 6 Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, Major General Adamu highlighted the centre’s mission and praised the brigade for effectively combining both direct military actions and community-focused initiatives to address security challenges in Taraba State.

The zonal director commended the operational successes achieved by the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 under Operation Whirl Stroke, noting their significant impact on improving safety in the region.

He clarified that his tour aimed to raise awareness about the centre’s role in controlling the distribution of small arms and light weapons throughout the North East. The achievements of the 6 Brigade in mitigating insecurity through a blend of tactical and non-tactical measures stand as a testament to their commitment.

“In light of these accomplishments, I want to reaffirm the centre’s commitment to partnering with your unit and other security agencies by facilitating intelligence sharing, conducting awareness programs, and engaging local communities as part of our comprehensive strategy against illicit arms,” Major General Adamu stated.

Responding to the visit, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, expressed gratitude to the Zonal Director and his team for their engagement.

He reiterated the brigade’s willingness to collaborate closely with the NCCSALW, emphasizing that a united front is crucial in the fight against illegal arms trafficking.

Brigadier General Uwa further highlighted the indispensable role of community vigilance and prompt reporting, stressing that curbing the flow of unauthorized weapons is vital to sustaining security, fostering peace, and promoting socio-economic growth within Taraba State and neighboring areas.
