Our Story: How We Crossed Paths
Oyin shares:
When my father recently arrived in the UK, he accompanied me to a Sunday church service. Afterward, he noticed I wasn’t involved in any ministry and, being the thoughtful dad he is, he approached my pastor about it. The pastor then asked me, “Which ministry would you like to join?” Without hesitation, I said, “Media.” It felt like a perfect fit since I’ve always been passionate about storytelling, creativity, and social media. Little did I realize that this choice would lead me to the most meaningful chapter of my life.
At the next media team meeting, the pastor introduced me to the group. The first person he called over was Mayowa. With a warm smile, he said, “Mayowa, meet Sister Oyin. Oyin, this is Mayowa.” The moment our eyes met, a quiet but powerful feeling stirred within me. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it was clear-something special was beginning. A gentle inner voice whispered, “This is the one.”
Weeks later, the media team organized a movie night, and I was tasked with coordinating the event and confirming attendees. When I reached out to Mayowa, it was a casual exchange, but fate had other plans. We ended up sitting side by side during the film, sparking our first real conversations. The following month, I hosted a Friendsgiving gathering and naturally invited Mayowa. I remembered him mentioning how much he missed a traditional dish called Ofada rice with Ayamase, a recipe his aunt used to prepare. Though unfamiliar with it, I was determined to surprise him. After some research and practice, I served it at the dinner. When he tasted it, his face lit up, and he joked, “I think I need to meet your family!”
From that moment, a beautiful relationship took root. What began as a simple church introduction grew into a love story grounded in friendship, laughter, faith, and a shared meal that forever connected our hearts. Our romance didn’t ignite with grand gestures or fireworks but blossomed through service in God’s house, shared moments at the movies, and a heartfelt dinner that sealed our bond.
