The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) witnessed a positive movement this week as the All-Share Index rose by 1.02%, closing at 143,584.04 points, while the Market Capitalisation increased by 1.31% to reach N91.135 trillion.
These figures mark an improvement from last week’s close of 142,133.03 points and N89.960 trillion, respectively.
As a result, investors in the equities market enjoyed a collective gain of N1.175 trillion over the review period.
It is important to note that the market operated for only four trading days this week due to the federal government’s declaration of Wednesday, October 1, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Most sector indices ended the week on a positive note, except for the NGX Premium, NGX Insurance, NGX AFR Dividend Yield, and NGX MERI Value indices, which declined by 0.05%, 2.02%, 2.78%, and 0.81%, respectively. Meanwhile, the NGX AseM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices remained unchanged.
Market activity saw a total turnover of 8.403 billion shares valued at N115.501 billion, executed across 115,801 transactions.
This contrasts with the previous week’s trading volume of 7.684 billion shares worth N494.126 billion, completed in 116,645 deals.
The Financial Services sector dominated trading activity, accounting for 7.750 billion shares valued at N88.153 billion through 54,074 transactions.
This sector contributed 92.24% of the total volume and 76.32% of the total value traded during the week.

The Consumer Goods sector ranked third, recording a turnover of 126.554 million shares worth N6.274 billion across 14,261 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, and United Bank for Africa Plc led trading volumes, collectively accounting for 6.525 billion shares valued at N52.699 billion in 8,820 deals.
These three stocks represented 77.66% of total equity volume and 45.63% of total equity value for the week.
Price movements showed 53 equities appreciating, an increase from 32 in the previous week.
Conversely, 43 stocks declined, fewer than the 51 recorded last week, while 51 remained unchanged, down from 64 previously.
The top five gainers were Eterna, Nigerian Enamelware, PZ Cussons, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank, and Eunisell Interlinked, with weekly price increases of 32.80%, 20.94%, 20.87%, 18.25%, and 17.56%, respectively.
These companies’ share prices rose by N9.15, N7.35, N7.20, 94 kobo, and N5.90, respectively.
On the other hand, the leading decliners included Julius Berger, International Energy Insurance, Union Dicon Salt, AXA Mansard, and University Press, which lost N26.60, 37 kobo, 90 kobo, N1.60, and 59 kobo, respectively.
In regulatory updates, NGX informed trading license holders that an additional 14,143,244,747 ordinary shares of 50 kobo each from Wema Bank Plc were officially listed on Tuesday, September 30, on the NGX Daily Official List.
This increase stems from Wema Bank’s Rights Issue of 14,286,785,417 ordinary shares at N10.45 per share, offered on the basis of two new shares for every three existing shares held as of the close of business on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Following this listing, Wema Bank’s total issued and fully paid-up shares have expanded from 21,430,178,125 to 35,573,422,872 ordinary shares of 50 kobo each.
