In a thrilling encounter at Celtic Park, Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring as Celtic edged Motherwell 3-2, according to Soccernet.ng.

Starting for Celtic on Sunday, Iheanacho marked his return to the lineup with a decisive penalty goal.

Since his arrival in Glasgow, Iheanacho had made an impressive impact, netting two goals and providing an assist in his initial three appearances. However, he had gone goalless in his last two outings prior to this match.

He broke his scoring drought when Celtic earned a penalty in the 27th minute. Iheanacho confidently stepped up and expertly placed the ball into the bottom-right corner, putting Celtic ahead 1-0.

Motherwell responded swiftly, with Apostolos Stamatelopoulos leveling the score just ten minutes later, ensuring the first half concluded at 1-1.

In the second half, Stamatelopoulos converted another penalty, giving Motherwell a 2-1 advantage over the reigning Scottish champions.

Nevertheless, Celtic rallied strongly, with Benjamin Nygren and Daizen Maeda each finding the net to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Iheanacho was substituted in the 71st minute, having contributed significantly with 22 touches, three key passes, and creating two major scoring opportunities alongside his goal.

Kelechi Iheanacho Sends a Message to Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle

With his recent goal against Motherwell, Iheanacho has now tallied three goals and one assist in six appearances since joining Celtic last month.

Despite this promising form, he was surprisingly excluded from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.

Nonetheless, with his recent resurgence, the Super Eagles’ coaching staff, including Eric Chelle, are undoubtedly monitoring his progress closely.

Iheanacho will be eager to reclaim his spot and reestablish himself as a key figure for Nigeria in the near future.
