Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has commended Governor Babagana Zulum alongside the North East Operation Hadin Kai troops for their swift action in visiting the displaced residents of Kirawa town in Gwoza local government area.
Last week, Senator Ndume voiced his deep concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks and the resulting fatalities in the community.
He also expressed profound regret over the forced displacement of many inhabitants, including the District Head of Kirawa, Alhaji Abubakar Abdulraham, who fled to neighboring Cameroon after his palace and several homes were destroyed by fire.
In response, Ndume urged government officials, particularly military commanders, to station a platoon in Kirawa to prevent further violent assaults.
In a statement personally endorsed by the senator and obtained in Maiduguri on Sunday, he highlighted the critical importance of community resilience and the timely reporting of any suspicious activities linked to Boko Haram or ISWAP militants to authorities and security forces.
He stressed that the ongoing insurgency in the North-East cannot be overcome by government or military efforts alone without active cooperation from local populations.
“I am truly encouraged by the governor’s commitment to the traumatized people of Kirawa, promising imminent deployment of Nigerian troops to protect the area. I also applaud his support for the Civilian Joint Task Force members and his approval of essential infrastructure projects such as hospitals and water supply systems in Kirawa and other parts of my constituency,” Ndume stated.
“I reiterate the necessity for civilians to remain vigilant and promptly share any intelligence regarding Boko Haram or ISWAP movements within their communities. The fight against these insurgents requires a united front; without public collaboration, neither the government nor the military can bring an end to the decade-long violence in the North-East,” the senator concluded.
