The Nigerian Army has refuted claims that bandits overpowered their forces and seized six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) along with more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition in Obanla, Kwara State.
According to a statement from Lt-Col Polycarp Okoye, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 2 Division Nigerian Army, the troops of the 148 Battalion (Rear) engaged in clearance missions across Kogi and Kwara States successfully established a fortified blocking position on the Kwara-Ekiti border. During this operation, they eliminated two armed bandits and recovered two newly acquired AK-47 rifles.
He emphasized, “At no point were our positions breached, nor did we lose any weapons or ammunition to criminal groups, contrary to the misleading reports circulating online. These falsehoods are intended to deceive the public and demoralize our dedicated soldiers who are tirelessly working to restore peace and security in the area.”
Lt-Col Okoye reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to combating all forms of criminal activity nationwide.
He also called on the public to dismiss the inaccurate report and encouraged citizens to continue providing timely and reliable intelligence to support ongoing military operations.
