The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubaker, officially commissioned the newly completed annex of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters located in Gudu, Abuja.

He hailed the building as a clear demonstration of the NAF’s dedication to institutional advancement and superior operational performance.

Badaru emphasized that the facility highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic vision and adaptability in meeting the increasing administrative and operational challenges brought about by its expanding role in safeguarding national security.

Since its inception in 1964, the Air Force has significantly broadened its scope and responsibilities, which has placed considerable pressure on the main headquarters in Garki, despite previous expansions, the minister noted.

He explained that under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, decisive measures were taken to renovate and finalize the Gudu annex, alleviating congestion at the headquarters and creating space for essential departments.

“This facility embodies the Nigerian Air Force’s pursuit of operational superiority, strategic planning, and institutional strengthening,” Badaru stated.

“It also aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes security, welfare, and infrastructure as pillars of national stability,” he added.

The minister praised the air chief for his visionary stewardship and efficient resource utilization, urging the personnel assigned to the new complex to ensure its upkeep.

In his address, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar revealed that the four-story building was originally intended to be a hotel but was acquired by the NAF in an incomplete state. It was subsequently refurbished and completed within a year by NAF engineers and technical staff.

Abubakar highlighted that this project reflects his leadership approach focused on transforming the Air Force into a dynamic and resilient entity through enhanced welfare, infrastructure modernization, and judicious resource management.

He further disclosed that the NAF has launched over 574 infrastructure initiatives across its formations, with 412 finalized and 162 still underway, all aimed at boosting personnel morale and operational capability.

Earlier, the Chief of Administration, AVM Idi Sani, explained that the new annex was designed to ease the burden on the main headquarters, improving administrative efficiency, collaboration, and productivity.

He described the building as more than just a physical space, calling it “a testament to the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering dedication to excellence and national service.”
