Omoluwabi Progressives, an offshoot of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has described the release of local government funds to alleged illegal political functionaries in Osun State as a brazen assault on democracy, the rule of law, and the sanctity of the Nigerian constitution.
It therefore warned the chairmen and councillors concerned not to touch the money paid into their illegal accounts, as doing so would amount to criminal activities that would be revisited now or later.
The group, at a press conference addressed by its chairman, Alhaji Azzes Issa Adesiji, in Osogbo on Monday, accused the federal government of perpetrating fascism by starving duly elected local government executives in the state of their statutory funds and diverting them into illegal accounts allegedly opened in the name of chairmen and councillors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adesiyi contended that the Osun local government election of October 15, 2022, which brought them in, was conducted in total disregard of the Electoral Act, adding that a Federal High Court has already nullified those elections. The subsequent appeal filed by APC has been struck out.
“APC’s attempt to build legality on the election it conducted based on technical victory over pre-election matters at the expense of a judgment that nullified the election outrightly is laughable and the height of political rascality”.
His words: “We condemn in the strongest terms this overbearing character of the Federal Government who has shown by this conduct that he will stop at nothing to manipulate institutions, desecrate the courts, and subvert the will of the people”.
Omoluwabi Progressives declared its resolve to resist this abuse of power, defend the law, and stand for the dignity of the Osun people.
