Asurf Oluseyi’s film, ‘3 Cold Dishes,’ continues to garner international acclaim, recently securing the Best World Film Award at the 2025 Harlem International Film Festival, as confirmed by the director to Nollywire.
Taking place annually in New York, the Harlem International Film Festival honors unique storytelling from around the globe. The Best World Film accolade highlights exceptional international productions that offer daring and innovative narratives-qualities that resonate deeply with Oluseyi’s work, which centers on three women seeking vengeance following a shared traumatic experience.
This prestigious award complements a strategic global campaign for the movie, prominently featuring Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. From unveiling the initial teaser during his Stade de France concert to showcasing the full trailer, Burna Boy has been instrumental in the film’s promotion, also attending its UK premiere on October 3, 2025.
In addition to a recent week-long promotional tour, ‘3 Cold Dishes’ earned two nominations at the Septimius Awards and was among six Nigerian films presented to international buyers at TIFF 50. The film is slated for further exposure through upcoming festival screenings and theatrical releases worldwide.
Set across Nigeria, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mauritania, the narrative follows three women-portrayed by Osas Ighodaro, Fat Toure, and Maud Guerard-on a relentless quest to confront Wale Ojo’s character, unraveling themes of trauma, survival, and betrayal.
The thriller also features performances by Femi Jacobs, Mentor Ba, Amelie Mbaye, and Ruby Akubueze, who plays a younger version of Ighodaro’s character during captivity. The cast is an international ensemble, with dialogue delivered in both English and French.
‘3 Cold Dishes’ is a collaborative production between Asurf Films, Burna Boy, and Bose Ogulu’s Space Films, alongside Nexthought Studios, Ifind Pictures (France), Black Mic Mac (France), Martian Network (The Netherlands), and Alma Production (Côte d’Ivoire). Financial support was provided by MBO Capital, with Osas Ighodaro co-producing through her Imuetiyan Productions.
Directed by Oluseyi and penned by screenwriter Tomi Adesina, the film delves into the harrowing realities of trafficking, exploitation, and the enduring impact of violence.
Following its UK premiere, ‘3 Cold Dishes’ will be released in cinemas across West Africa, France, and additional regions. Starting November 7, it will be available in theaters in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, Cameroon, and the United Kingdom.
From November 28, audiences in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Tunisia, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Djibouti will have the opportunity to view the film, ahead of its Canadian debut on December 16, 2025.
