Geoffrey Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, has officially stepped down amid controversies surrounding the authenticity of his academic credentials and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate. This resignation concludes an extensive inquiry conducted by Premium Times.
On Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted Nnaji’s resignation.
“President Tinubu has approved the resignation of Geoffrey Nnaji from his role as Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following allegations leveled against him. In his resignation letter, Nnaji expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve the nation,” the official statement declared.
Investigations revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) denied issuing the Bachelor of Science degree certificate claimed by Nnaji. Additionally, the NYSC certificate he presented was found to be counterfeit, casting serious doubts on its legitimacy.
Although Nnaji reportedly admitted that both documents were forged, he described the situation as a politically motivated attempt to discredit him.
“Nnaji alleged that political adversaries have been blackmailing him. President Tinubu acknowledged his contributions and extended best wishes for his future pursuits,” Onanuga’s statement added.
