The Kwara State government has firmly denied reports claiming that any of its state-ai-solving-urgent-problems/” title=”How AI Systems in Niger … Are Tackling Urgent Challenges You Can't Ignore”>local government areas are currently controlled by bandits.
This clarification was issued through a statement signed by Mrs. Bolanle Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications.
The statement emphasized, “Contrary to recent rumors suggesting that nine local government areas in Kwara State are under bandit siege, we categorically state that no such situation exists. None of the local government areas is under any form of siege.”
“While we acknowledge isolated security challenges in certain locations, these incidents do not justify the spread of exaggerated and false narratives being circulated by opposition groups both within and outside the state,” the statement added.
“We have strong reasons to believe that these groups act as online agitators, akin to bandits themselves, by spreading fear through misinformation-such as the baseless claim that nine LGAs are besieged and reports of armed men moving in parts of Asa LGA.”
“It is particularly disappointing that Mr. Peter Obi has used his social media platforms to amplify these falsehoods. Such actions are unbecoming of a statesman, and we call on him to remove the misleading post immediately.”
“We also appeal to the public to refrain from sharing unconfirmed reports that could incite panic, confusion, and emotional distress among residents.”
“This kind of irresponsible dissemination of false information only complicates the efforts of our security agencies, who are already working tirelessly to maintain peace and order,” the statement concluded.
