On Wednesday, operatives from the Nigeria Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) conducted coordinated raids on the Osun Amotekun offices located in Ife Central Local Government Area and the Head Office Annexe in Osogbo.
Sources suggest that this action is linked to the tragic incident on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, where seven individuals lost their lives in Akinlalu town, within Ife North Local Government Area.
An insider within the Amotekun Corps, speaking anonymously, disclosed that police officers from Abuja descended on the two Osun Amotekun locations, detaining approximately twenty-five personnel.
He explained, “On Wednesday, the IRT from Abuja raided the Osun Amotekun offices in both Ife Central and Osogbo.
“In Osogbo, twenty Amotekun members on duty were taken into custody, while five were arrested in Ife Central.”
In a subsequent update, the Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of five suspects connected to the Akinlalu killings.
The statement, issued by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan through Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, revealed that investigations have identified the assailants as members of the Amotekun Corps.
He stated, “Our investigations indicate that the perpetrators are affiliated with the Amotekun Corps. Several individuals have been named as the masterminds behind the attack, and victims along with witnesses have expressed their readiness to identify them if presented. Currently, five suspects are in custody, and efforts continue to apprehend others still at large.”
Furthermore, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, was summoned to provide clarity regarding his involvement in the violent episode but declined to respond to the invitation.
It was also revealed that Omoyele later alleged he was assaulted by unidentified gunmen wearing masks; however, preliminary investigations have debunked this claim, suggesting it was fabricated to obstruct justice for the victims.
The official statement reads, “The Amotekun Corps Commander was called upon to explain his role in the attack.
“He has not complied with the summons, and attempts to contact him by phone were unsuccessful as his line was switched off. Subsequently, on October 6, 2025, he posted on social media claiming he was attacked by masked gunmen. Our initial inquiries indicate this is a falsehood intended to mislead the investigation and hinder justice for those affected.”
Additionally, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has mandated the elite investigative unit, IRT-FID, to take full charge of the case.
The police command urged the public to ignore rumors and continue with their daily activities, emphasizing their commitment to preserving the peace for which Osun State is renowned.
